As of this review, I've only heard one track from Lateralus, and that's "Schism". From what I can figure, TOOL is back, and in fighting shape.
About to go on tour with prog-rock geezers, KING CRIMSON, TOOL has returned to the fold with a whole pile of new material which showcases their brilliant musicianship and songwriting ability.
Again, keep in mind that I've only heard ONE song... It kicked me in the head so hard however, that I felt the need to write a big, fat, ass-kissing review.
I have read the lyrics to the entire Lateralus track list, and I can tell you that frontman/lyricist, Maynard James Keenan, is as profound and angry. Keenan cuts himself open and bleeds all over this release...which is the sign of a truly gifted artist; someone who can take all of the pain or joy that he's feeling in his life and transcribe it to paper. To articulate that much emotion is an impressive feat, to say the least.
In a market of pre-packaged, shiny, corn-filled, dog shit music, TOOL has emerged from the stink pile, and laid it to waste with this one.
