MASTERS OF HORROR
What do you get when you take a collection of today's hottest rock and
metal acts and have them contribute two discs worth of B-sides, covers,
and unreleased material? You get
Masters Of Horror, the soundtrack to the upcoming
Showtime miniseries, which features mini-movies from such horror legends as John Carpenter and Tobe Hooper.
Compilations like this can be a crapshoot, because the material is
often assembled from various piles of songs that bands don't want
making it on their major releases...However, with
Masters Of Horror,
you get thirty quality songs from some great acts, presented in a
creepy-looking package. I liked the MUDVAYNE B-side "Small Sillouette"
and the cover of "Enjoy The Silence" by IT DIES TODAY. "We Are One" by
BUCKETHEAD and Serj Tankian is the definition of ecclectic (although it
does sound a lot like SYSTEM OF A DOWN), and "This is My Own" by
SHADOWS FALL lets us know that that band has a ton of great material
left in them.
This compilation couldn't have been released at a better time of year. It's halloween. It's just after
Ozzfest has wrapped up, and many of the bands on
Masters Of Horror are still on people's minds. Combine that with the creepy horror mini-movies, and you have a winner.
