ARE YOU DEAD YET?
It’s been years since I’ve heard a band with this particular sound that
I really liked; Alexi Laiho is one hell of a guitarist and songwriter.
I haven’t been exposed to much of CHILDREN OF BODOM’s music until now,
and I am not disappointed at all. I always knew of Alexi’s reputation
as a great guitarist, so I had high hopes when popping this CD in for
the first time, and let me tell you I was not let down one bit. The
solo’s that fly around like a hailstorm on this album sound so well
thought out yet so natural at the same time, nothing really sounds
forced. The drums are brain-rattling and the riffs are extra chunky and
catchy, I think I pretty much praised the leads enough. Their overall
sound on this album reminds me a lot of older IN FLAMES, which I am
also a big fan of. Overall,
Are You Dead Yet?
is definitely worth all the hype and expectations that surrounded it.
If you are a fan of intense thrash with a real dark side, this album is
absolutely for you.
Tracks that really stick out in my mind are “Living Dead
Beat,” “If You Want Peace…Prepare For War,” “In Your Face,” and
“Trashed, Lost & Strungout.”
