Words That Go Unspoken Deeds That Go Undone
AKERCOCKE's
Words That Go Unspoken Deeds That Go Undone is probably one of the few CDs I’ve listened to from
Earache Records
that I didn’t despise. These guys really take extreme Black/Death
Metal, to…well…an extreme. I’m not particularly a fan of Satanism in
music, I think that bringing any kind of religion directly into music
is a cheesy move, so I guess it’s a good thing I can’t make out what
these guys are saying. The actual musicianship is great, the only thing
that was really lacking was in production, most of the time the growls
were mixed in so low you could barely hear them. The drums were also
mixed a little low, but it was tolerable. The guitars are great, the
bass lines have an awesome drive behind them. The only thing I wish
they could have done was make the songs more distinguishable. It seems
Akercocke fell into the typical rut for this kind of Metal, and you
can’t tell where one songs ends and the next one begins. Don’t get me
wrong, there are quite a few really good melodic parts on here, just
not as much rhythm as I would have liked to hear.
I think if these guys refine their sound a little, and work on better
production next time around, it would be a much-needed improvement.
They don’t need to change their sound completely, but it would nice if
they put as much effort into making their rhythms cleaner as they do on
their look and attitude.
