Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra DVD
Sure, he looks like he's trapped in a cheesy 1985 heavy metal video.
Sure, he's pretentious. Sure, he likes to "unleash the fury" on long
plane trips...All of these little nuances seem to fall by the way side
when you consider the following: YNGWIE MALMSTEEN can play his ass off.
End of story.
With
Concerto Suite for Electric Guitar and Orchestra (in e flat minor with the New Japan Philharmonic),
which was filmed over four years ago and has previously been released
on CD, Malmsteen proves once again that he's the undisputed kind of
neo-classical shredding. Now, he's proving it to the American audience
thanks to Eagle Vision and Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Yngwie plays through seventeen pieces of orchestral music alongside the
New Japan Philharmonic flawlessly, and that's no small feat. To play
with that much accuracy and skill for that long requires a tremendous
amount of stamina and concentration; it's not like he's just whacking
away at power chords endlessly.
Even if you're not the biggest fan of classical music, there's
something about the manner in which Malmsteen fuses that heavy metal
crunch with classical composition that makes it far more paletable.
Watching him shred away in front of that orchestra makes me wish I practiced more when I was a teenager.
