9.0 LIVE

This has to be one of the best live albums I’ve heard in a long time, if not for the musicianship, or the sheer volume of tracks, then for the memory of actually seeing this show performed live. SLIPKNOT is a band that you love or hate; the people who hate it can go on hating it, it obviously isn’t for them, but for those who love Slipknot, seeing them live is an absolute MUST (which might be a little difficult since they just finished touring for Subliminal Verses and have announced they will be taking an undecided amount of time off for a while. 9.0 Live isn’t actually one single show, it’s a collection of their best performances from about 2 years of touring. The track listing on this double CD is incredible, every one of their best songs and a few that they have NEVER played live before. There is an announcement that comes after Duality and before Spit It Outthat was taken from a live show that I actually attended, so it was kind of cool to hear that on this album. I won’t tell you what it is, don’t want to ruin the surprise if you plan on buying the CD.

The production is great for a live album, Slipknot already sounds awesome live so it’s no surprise that the album would hold the same quality. There are times when the mix is a little off but with a band with this many members it can’t be easy to mic and mix every instrument perfectly in a live setting. The only thing I noticed was that Corey’s voice seems a little rough on a few tracks, his scream isn’t as powerful and his speaking voice is very raspy. Of course, it’s no surprise because touring for 2 years straight will do that to your voice, especially with the strenuous live show that Corey has to go through night after night. Like I said, you either love or hate Slipknot, I happen to be one of the people that love them and I’m not ashamed to say so. Many people say they’re a bunch of posers, not “true metal” and all that other crap, but in the end, there are bands with far fewer members that can’t keep their performance tight and smooth, this band has 9 guys that give it their all every time and always keep it together.
