LIVE AT STARLAND BALLROOM IN SAYREVILLE, NJ
Having never gotten the chance to see SEVENDUST live, I had no idea
what to expect from them as a live act. I’ve heard many good things
about them live, so I knew I wouldn’t be let down, but I can be very
critical of a band’s live performance, so I was very interested to see
how well they played live, especially the new material from Next. After
2 opening bands: BOBAFLEX, who were disappointing, and 10 YEARS which I
will say did impress me quite a bit for a relatively newer band,
Sevendust took the stage after roughly a minute of chest-shaking bass
blasted out of the speakers. The set list consisted of some of their
best material (as a side note, I hate having to point that out, because
in all honesty, why would a band ever play anything other than their
best songs for paying customers?). Being right up front for the show in
order to take photos, my earplugs couldn’t even block out the crowd
when they started up the opening song “Enemy.” They blasted through the
set with incredible energy that never seemed to let up and there was
not a single disappointed face in the crowd. The complete set list was
as follows: “Enemy,” “Black,” “Ugly”, “Waffle,” “Denial,” “Assdrop,”
“Hero,” “Praise,” “Pieces,” and “Face to Face.” My personal favorites
of the night were “Ugly,” “Waffle,” “Denial,” “Hero,” and “Praise,” but
in all honesty, there was not a single song that was played less than
awesome.
