Ian Astbury, Billy Duffy, and Matt Sorum return with a bad ass disc produced by Bob Rock. This is the band's first disc of new material since 1994, and if this doesn't put them back on the map, because let's face it... THE CULT are in desperate need of a comeback... nothing will. The first single, 'Rise' is the most powerful song they've released since 'Fire Woman' off of Sonic Templehad us banging our heads ten years ago. There is a hint of the 'She Sells Sanctuary' riff in 'Rise', but not so much that you'd accuse these guys of re-hashing old material. Sixty songs were written, and chiseled down to the twelve featured on Beyond Good and Evil..which is about average for a band going in the studio that needs to kick the public's ass after being relatively dormant for a decade...Well, that is considering the fact that they broke up in 1995, and reformed in 1999. Another noteworthy track on the disc is the haunting track 'Nico'... it's really a pretty melody, and could serve the band well as a second single. Ian Astbury's voice is really strong for a middle-aged guy. He's belting his heart out on every single track. Only time will tell, but it looks like THE CULT may actually be back for a while with this one.
