HAUNTING REMAINS
I know this comparison will shock some people, but I’m going to say you
could probably compare Ghost Machinery to YNGWIE MALMSTEEN. Not the man
himself, but definitely his band.
Haunting Remains
is full of the same rhythms and melodies you hear on a lot of Yngwie’s
older stuff. The vocals are what I first noticed, and then when you
count in the whole chugging guitars with tons of fills and keyboard
fills that chase the guitars around the songs, you definitely have some
Marching Out type material on here. To be more precise, some of the
songs on here remind me of “Anguish and Fear” off of
Marching Out,
they share that energy and speed. The guitar solos are NOT shabby
either, not exactly what Mr. Malmsteen does, but not falling too short
in comparison either.
Haunting Remains
could probably be best described as a dark, brooding Power Metal album
with a few ballad-type moments. Get this, Jussi Ontero plays both drums
and keyboards; I’d love to see him pull that off live in concert, but
I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t happen without some kind of recording
being used. Imagine that though, watching some dude play double kick
drums, use one hand for skin bashing with a drum stick and his other
hand is playing keyboards. Screw playing guitar behind your back,
that
would be a sight! The albums opening track “World of Unbelievers” is my
favorite so far, but the much softer “Dreamworld” is a close second.
