ROSENROT

I love when a new RAMMSTEIN CD shows up, because I know two things are immediately going to happen: 1) I'm not going to understand a goddamn word of Till Lindemann's vocals (because they're all in German...duh), and 2) I'm going to want to beat the piss out of someone immediately afterward. Such is once again the case with Rosenrot. Now, I have read some abyssmal reviews of their previous disc Reise, Reise, which I didn't think was that bad, actually. Sure, I thought they could have picked up the tempo a little, but it wasn't a bad collection of tunes at all. The same criticism holds true for Rosenrot. I sincerely wish they could have picked up the pace a little bit on these tracks, because what got me hooked on Rammstein way back when Herzeleid was released was that every song sounded like a freight train was rolling through your speakers. Now, it seems like Lindermann, a former athlete and author, wants us to pay attention to his emotional, gut-wrenching lyrics. Thank God for "Te Quiero Puta!" and "Zerstören", which pick up the pace enough to make me remember why I started buying Rammstein CDs.

If only I comprehended German. Perhaps then I would appreciate them.

Language barriers aside (except for "Te Quiero Puta!", which is sung in Spanish) Rosenrot is a solid release from these guys. I can appreciate the fact that they want to evolve as a band, and don't want to revisit the same disc over and over, but I just wish they'd speed up the pace a little and cater to my desire to punch the mailman in the face... or the UPS guy... or the FedEx guy... whoever shows up first.
