BITTER PART OF ME
I am REALLY starting to appreciate
MySpace as a place to find
great new music. Now, don't get me wrong, there is a lot of crap out
there, but for the most part, the bands that have been sending CDs in
to be reviewed are really impressive. Take PANIC CELL for instance.
With almost every track on
Bitter Part Of Me his UK hard rock/metal outfit assaults your senses with aggresive rhythms, hooky songwrting, and big fat production values.
"Away from Here" is a great headcrushing anthem that I can only imagine
plays really well with a live audience (it's also getting played
overseas on the video outlets, so the crowds must like it). Singer Luke
Bell shows off his melodic abilities, as well as his talent for
growling like a maniac in the span of this five minute track. His voice
is similar in places to David Draiman from DISTURBED. Another signature
track is "Save Me", which sounds slightly GODSMACK-ish, and features
some harmonies more commonly heard in so many ALICE IN CHAINS songs.
The band also shows off their softer side with "Thousand Words", with
it's mellow opening and melody to drink yourself into oblivion to...
this is also where you'll catch the similarities to Draiman's voice.
According to their press kit, they're already playing alongside some
heavy-hitters in the metal scene in Europe (SOiL, DISTURBED). I
wouldn't mind seeing this band hit the U.S. sometime soon, because I
think they're material would resonate well with the rockheads over here.
