BLACK WINGS OF DESTINY
Let me start by saying that it’s been too long sine a release from DRAGONLORD. I was a huge fan of their debut album
Rapture and waiting for a long time for a follow-up.
Black Wings of Destiny,
unfortunately is a little weaker than what I had expected. I feel that
Rapture was a tighter album, it was produced better in my opinion. I am
not saying that
Black Wings of Destiny
isn’t good, not at all, there are some real shining moments on this
album for Dragonlord, I just wish there were more. The second and third
tracks: “The Curse of Woe” and “Revelations” are awesome. Then there is
some unfortunate filler material, but the album ends incredibly strong
with songs like “Blood Voyeur,” “Fallen,” “Black Funeral,” and
“Emerald.” OK, so maybe I’m being a little picky, but I liked
Rapture
so much that it’s disappointing when the follow-up doesn’t step it up
and go beyond what the previous CD had to offer. Maybe these guys will
decide to not wait 4 years between albums and make a third release
sooner than later and knock everyone’s socks off, who knows. I’m giving
this a 4 because it’s an awesome CD but there’s something lacking. It
doesn’t deserve a 5, but 3 is too low, I think, so yeah, 4 it is.
