Wow, fucking wee. This is without a doubt one of my top 5 favorite albums ever right now. It’s great to be able to hear Dime again, especially on some new tunes. This album is a must-buy for any fans of DAVID ALLEN COE or PANTERA.
Most people hear about this album and wonder if it would be any good. The mix of Country and Metal has never been done like this, if at all, and it will never nor could it ever, sound so good. What you have here is ¾ Pantera with Dimebag, Vinnie Paul, and Rex, and famous country music outlaw David Allan Coe on vocals. It’s a hell of a match up, and it sounds incredible. Even though each song has a little Metal and a little Country, each one displays equally, the talents and trademarks of the guys involved. You hear Rex’s doodling bass fills, Vinnie’s signature kick drum sound, Dimebag Darrell’s unmistakable guitar work, and of course, D.A.C.’s voice.
Each song on here is a real gem, but I absolutely have to comment on a few. The title track “Rebel Meets Rebel” is one of the strongest tracks on the album, the guitars are heavy as hell. David and Dime trade off verse lines while almost the entire time there is a Charlie Daniel’s style fiddle playing over the guitars. There is no guitar solo, there is a fiddle solo, which kicks ass. Most people wouldn’t think so, but trust me, it’s friggin awesome. The two tracks that leaked the earliest are “Nothin To Lose” and “Get Outta My Life.” Both tunes kick absolute ass; Dime’s guitar work on “Nothin To Lose” sounds like a freight train chugging through the song and Hank III does the chorus on “Get Outta My Life.” “Panfilo” is an acoustic jam track that Dime did in the flamenco guitar style, it’s good and too short, I would have loved to have heard an extended version. “Heart Worn Highway” and “Cherokee Cry” are my other 2 favorites. There isn’t a bad song on here. “NYC Streets” is awesome because it was done on the fly in one take. This is an awesome album and I can’t recommend it enough.
