HARMONY OF LIES

Harmony of Lies is a showcase of tremendous musicianship that leans more to the power metal side of heavy music. The guitarists show off their ability to shred right from the start in “Blur the Lines”, but also that they are willing to pound out simple, but effective riffs throughout the album. The vocalist has an almost operatic voice, but it’s clear that he has his limits. You can understand what he is singing which is refreshing in a time when bands try to outdo each other with how intense they can scream. With that said, there are moments where you can tell that a higher note needs to be reached, but he isn’t able to get there. The most obvious example of this is in “Nothingheart”, a song that starts off slow, speeds up, and comes back down again, showing their ability to have changing dynamics in a single song.

“Bleed” is another song that starts off slow, but this only last for 30 seconds before they turn up the velocity. “Dead Thought Matrix” has an interesting time signature in the verses, and intense gang vocals in the chorus, and is probably the best song on the album. Harmony of Lies should please fans of power metal, but also anyone in general who likes to hear cleaner singing in their metal, and not just an exercise in brute force.
