BLOODLINE
SVARTSYN bleeds black metal: from their barely legible logo, to the artwork (of what looks like a crazed hobo about to stab a woman in the woods), right down to the music. This album has 9 songs plus two bonus tracks. The band hammers through almost each song at relatively the same speed, and doesn’t stop to catch a breath until the very end. The music is very loud and nearly drowns out the vocalist, who screeches, as goes this genre, throughout each song without abandon.
The only relief from this sonic assault comes with the last official song on the album, “Waves of Eternal Darkness”, which is just a simple synth for a little over a minute. The two bonus tracks are from an earlier EP, and should’ve been left off completely due to the awful sound quality. This album is saved from getting one star because I’m sure some black metal fans will dig this, but beyond that, I don’t see how any other metal fan can get into it.
