CALIFORNIA POPPY
I’m not going to give a blow-by-blow take on the songs here because it seriously was just one giant snoozefest, and if you can excuse my overuse of cliches for a second, then at least listen when I say, avoid it. OPM may appeal to some stoners who are just looking to mellow out and need some background music playing, but that’s it. It’s a much slower version of SUBLIME and 311, but without the former’s sense of humor and the latter’s grasp on dynamics. When you look at the band members themselves, you think you’re about to hear some past-the-expiration-date rap rock, but the thuggish looks are only masking really sappy lyrics and really dull music. There are horns on some songs and two vocalists who mostly rap. Bottom line: stay away.
