MONOTHEIST
The long-awaited return of CELTIC FROST came earlier this year with the release of
Monotheist. This is the first new release in 14 years to be exact. I recently got a copy of the Digipack, which features a stellar extra track entitled “Temple of Depression”.
Listening to this disc hasn’t been hard for me to do, as I love everything on it. Monotheist is very dark and tends to eschew the black/death sound from earlier albums. My favorite tracks have been “Progeny,” “A Dying God Coming Into Human Flesh,” and “Obscured”. As I said earlier, the entire album is phenomenal so don’t get discouraged when I only name three of my favorite tracks.
I am a huge Celtic Frost fan, so I obviously loved the release and I think everyone else that hears it will feel the same way. Doctor Morbid, who works on the band’s official website, had a great way of describing the return of this great band after over a decade of time apart to me: “The daring nature of Monotheist proves they didn't care if it sold or not, just as long as they made it and it furthered the daring and innovative legacy of Celtic Frost.”
Monotheist is one of the best releases of 2006 and everyone should spend the $20 to get a copy ASAP! Also, if you pick up the vinyl copy, you can get another bonus track (“Incantation Against You”).
