BAT OUT OF HELL III
MEAT LOAF is back with the Trilogy part of the Bat. Growing up you could not escape that first record. I even had the chance to review part two in another publication. As with then I am still a metal head. The thing about this record it has some heavy metal or at least you could say that or harder rock at least. Virgin Records has picked on up for this part of the bat. The opening track has some fire as Desmond Child teams up with Nikki Sixx and John 5. So already you hear a very updated Bat sound with the choruses and neo classical play really killed me. I was blown away by this song. This is where Bat should be. This play more into the Broadway sweetness of “Blind As a Bat” that builds and is uplifting in a way? Marion Raven lights up “It’s All Coming Back To Me Now” and what a sweet song it is. ”Bad For Good” has those familiar Queen like riffs (being that it’s Brian May) and this is one of those up-tempo tracks that will rock ass live. When you read the credits it seems like a book. Some many people helped make this record happen. It seems like a year ago the hype started so they had to clear schedules, I’m sure. “Cry Over Me” is another sweeter song showing the more tender Meat. I can’t help thinking of Trans Siberian Orchestra (weak Manowar hints) when listening for some reason. “In the Land Of The Pig, The Butcher Is King” is another that is very dark and sinister, verging in that metal land. Go Steve Vai. “Monstro” is something that has loud choir spinning off into “Alive” definitely going for a Bat one feel that you feel a few times while listening through this record. This is a track that should see some focus. “If God Could Talk” has Meat showing some real feel in his vocal approach and, WOW this is a cool rock ballad! “If It Ain’t Broke Don’t Fix It” is a track that sees the band kicking up a more groove track melding into what might be considered Funky Meat. “What About Love” is another sweeter sounding track with a great vocal duo going on with Patti Russo. “Seize The Night” is one of the more epic tracks heavy on the orchestration. This is where things go very progressive as this track rocks pretty hard. The backing horns on this album sounded at all the right times. When listening to this you hear so much going on, it is incredible and sounds huge. “The Future Ain’t What It Used To Be” serves up more Soul in another track that showcases some cool vocals. “Cry To Heaven” has a sweetness that closes out this record. I don’t think Meat could top this one and I’d think we would never see a Bat 4. This is Meat utilizing all instruments possible to make a full sounding record. I’d think his fans would enjoy this record a lot and it could crossover to many chart categories. In all honesty I didn’t think I’d like this as much as I did. It seems to have an edge about it most of the time.
