Rebirth of Dissection DVD
DISSECTION had a tumultuous career plagued with a break-up, a stint in jail, and ending in vocalist/guitarist Jon Nodtveidt's suicide this past August.
They're regarded as one of the most important black metal bands to ever surface and the proof is in this DVD, which features a sold-out show in Stockholm, Sweden from 2004. This would be one of the very few shows Dissection would wind up playing as part of their reunion. The sound and video quality is top-notch and although the band isn't extremely energetic, the power of the songs, along with the audience's contagious energy, are enough to propel the performance.
The other main component of the DVD is an interview with Nodtveidt where he speaks about his time in prison and how he was able to come up with a wealth of material while serving his ten year sentence. He refers to Dissection as the most hated band in the world, and says that the old line-up didn't work out because the members didn't share the same passion for Satanism that he does.
He says all of this in a straightforward, calculating manner, and it doesn't come across as him "acting evil" for the camera. At many points throughout the interview he mentions how society doesn't accept individuals and how Dissection's music stands as a "fuck you" to those who stifle free expression.
It's an interesting release and worth checking out.
