STITCH IN TIME
Greg Dulli has done it again. The TWILIGHT SINGERS just released their latest effort, an EP titled
A Stitch In Time, through One Little Indian and they’ve added Mark Lanegan to the mix. I love everything that Dulli has done but there is something about this latest disc that raises it above the rest.
The album starts out with a haunting cover of MASSIVE ATTACK’s “Live With Me,” which is reminiscent of Lanegan’s ‘Bubblegum’ album from 2004. This track is worth buying the album for on it’s own, but any Dulli fan knows that his releases are perfect from beginning to end and
A Stitch In Time is no different.
“Sublime” and “Flashback” are really interesting tracks on this EP. The former is very, well, sublime. It’s a mellow track that I’ve been listening to constantly and it has caused my chick to become a huge Twilight Singers fan. The latter has me scrambling to pull together a sentence that would describe it in a way that would do the song justice. I guess it’s the type of song that you’ll just have to listen for yourself to understand what I mean.
“They Ride” had me hooked instantly. It has an Afghan Whigs vibe that reminded me of the ‘Gentleman’ record. Great guitar work, catchy drums, and signature Greg Dulli vocals make this song the best on the album.
A Stitch In Time comes to an end with “The Lure Would Prove Too Much” … which was the perfect way to close out this EP. Slow and beautiful is the only way to describe my thoughts on this track. The messages toward the end of the song that play below Dulli’s vocals really set this song apart from the rest of the album.
After listening to this latest EP from The Twilight Singers in its entirety, I feel that this is some of the best material that I’ve heard. Greg Dulli is a true musical genius and this record drives that point home. He constantly surrounds himself with the best musicians and continues to make masterpieces long after the days of the Afghan Whigs came to an end.
No matter what you consider yourself a fan of, this record has something for you. Whether you like of The Twilight Singers or rock music in general, you must own a copy of
A Stitch In Time.
