One with Everything
We've seen it from other bands before, but it's still exciting when rock legends expand their boundaries and go at it with a symphony. That's just what STYX did in May of 2006 at the Blossom Music Center in Cleveland, Ohio…with a bunch of teenagers. NAMBLA was no doubt in attendance.
The opening track, “Blue Collar Man” reels you in and makes you appreciate the practice and effort that must have gone into preparing for this performance. Why am I being nice when I'm normally a prick? Valium, my friends. It's a helluva drug.
The whole time I was listening to this I kept wondering where Cartman was with “Come Sail Away.” Much to my chagrin, he never shows up. Even without him though, the disc keeps your attention, because they have some serious energy, if nothing else. They close with “Renegade” which you probably know even if you don't know who “Styx” is. On a self-promoting note, you can also see James “J.Y.” Young on the Hard Rock Treasures DVD, found on this very website.
