Empty Heart: Loaded Gun
Now this was a welcomed surprise. Finally a new band that values old-fashioned rhythm based Rock, and solid songwriting. These guys have been compared to the likes of SOUNDGARDEN and The DEFTONES. Normally I don’t like to read what other people have said, I feel sometimes it dilutes the process of forming my own opinion, but I have to say that whoever said it pretty much hit the nail on the head. The whole album just drives forward with solid rhythms and, naturally, a very tight rhythm section. The opening track “Short Memory” was a great choice for an album opener; the only other track that might have qualified to give the CD an explosive start would be “Bright Red.” I think musically, my favorite tracks would have to be “Loosely Tied Ends,” “Unbearable,” and “Left Behind.” I do need to point out that from what I noticed of the lyrics, they tend to deal a lot with disappointment, bad relationships, and revenge, and yes, there probably is a connection there. Either way, I did notice one other strong resemblance here, on the track “Unbearable” the vocals sound almost identical to Brent Smith of SHINEDOWN, which to me is a great thing, Shinedown is one of my favorite bands. Re:Ignition is now also one of my favorite bands. These guys boast traits that are important to me: Strong rhythms, powerful song writing, tight musical chops, and vocals that don’t resemble Sesame Street characters (Cookie Monster, I’m looking at you).
