Elementary
When I checked the mail, I saw that I had received a copy of THE END’s
Elementary album so I popped it into the ol’ computer to take a listen to one of Relapse’s latest bands. I was immediately taken back by the awesome drumming and the heavy guitar riffs. I knew then that this album was definitely a keeper.
I would say that The End falls somewhere between metalcore and straight-up rock, which is a land that I’m not very familiar with. I’m not a very big fan of hardcore, but I think this album works it very well. The drumming and riffs could carry it alone however something would be missing Aaron Wolf’s vocals.
There were some points where I felt that the album slipped a little, most notably “The Never Ever Aftermath,” but I did enjoy the rest of it. There is something about this band, and I can’t quite put a finger on it, that makes me feel they could find some of their audience in the mainstream music world.
The End delivers an in your face message and follows it up with a very mellow sound on the very next track, which is cool but I could use a little more head banging material. Give it a listen before you judge it, though, and I think you’ll come away liking it.
