Mechanics of Dysfunction
BENEATH THE MASSACRE, a Canadian technical death metal band, will release
Mechanics of Dysfunction on February 20 through Prosthetic Records. It is one of the most punishing albums that I’ve heard and that is why Beneath the Massacre just became one of my favorite bands.
Extremely technical guitar shredding? Check! Vocals so harsh that they make Glen Benton run for cover? Check! Drums blasting hard enough to make your ears bleed? Check! Everything that you could hope for in a death metal release is present on
Mechanics of Dysfunction. As if the extreme musical destruction wasn’t enough, Beneath the Massacre also write good lyrics – which is a concept sometimes lost in today’s metal scene.
The entire release is incredible, but I will try to narrow down my favorite tracks. “Society’s Disposable Son,” “The Stench of Misery,” and “Better Off Dead” are amazing tracks, but so is every song featured. If I was forced into picking my absolute favorite, I would have to say “Modern Age Slavery,” I would also suggest adding the song with the untitled instrumental track before it in order to get the full effect.
Mechanics of Dysfunction is a very innovative approach to death metal that, I’m sure, Beneath the Massacre will be happy they chose. There were a few comparisons that I thought about making for this album, but nothing could do it justice.
Elliot Desgagnes may have the best death metal vocal style that I’ve ever heard. That coupled with the talent of the rest of the band is a match made in heaven. If I could recommend one album that I’ve reviewed since I started doing this, I would recommend Beneath the Massacre’s
Mechanics of Dysfunction.
