Butchering the Beatles: A Headbashing Tribute
Remember how you thought it would be cool for you and your garage band to cover old Beatles songs one weekend? Well give it up, soe of rock’s most notorious superstars have beat you to the punch.
Butchering the Beatles: A Headbashing Tribute just arrived and features the likes of Alice Cooper, Lemmy Kilmister (MOTORHEAD), C.C. Deville (POISON), Yngwie Malmsteen, and many more playing some of your favorite Beatles tunes.
The album starts with Alice Cooper singing “Hey Bulldog” with Steve Vai, Duff McKagan and Mikkey Dee and I am completely blown away by this concept. More than that, I am blown away that Restless Records got such a fantastic cast to play on this tribute record. My favorite track was Lemmy’s take on “Back in the USSR” featuring John 5 of MARILYN MANSON and ROB ZOMBIE fame.
Billy Idol also chimes in to sing “Tomorrow Never Knows” while Tommy Shaw plays on “Day Tripper” and Mike Inez blisters through “I Feel Fine”. You also get to hear Geoff Tate belt out “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” and C.C. Deville playing “I Saw Her Standing There”. These are amazing tracks but nothing compares to hearing George Lynch play on “Hey Jude” and Kip Winger’s lyrical interpretation of “Drive My Car”. That’s right, you get to hear all of this on Butchering the Beatles. Plus, Yngwie Malmsteen – the godfather of Power Metal – provides guitar work on “Magical Mystery Tour”.
Anyone who is a fan of the Beatles needs a copy of this record. More so than that, anyone who is a fan of 80s Hard Rock/Metal must have a copy of this album. Out of all of the interpretations that I’ve heard people do for Beatles songs –
Butchering the Beatles: A Headbashing Tribute is my absolute favorite.
