Blackfield II
BLACKFIELD is the duo of Steve Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE) and Aviv Geffen. Their second effort,
Blackfield II, is about to hit stores through Atlantic Records and it’s definitely going to be an Indie Rock hit. The album is incredible from beginning to end and features really catchy guitar and drum work on most songs.
“Once” kicks off the album and the group couldn’t have picked a better song to lead with. It has a slow beginning but quickly builds in to an upbeat, stellar track that I could hear being used on TV shows. In fact, the whole album has that kind of feel to it. You could definitely see a lot of Blackfield’s music being featured on Grey’s Anatomy or other high-profile TV dramas.
Songs like “1,000 People,” “Christenings,” “My Gift of Silence,” and “End of the World” make
Blackfield II an instant masterpiece. The record shows sheer brilliance on near every track – and this is coming from a metal head. Everyone can find something to appreciate in Blackfield.
While remaining to keep an indie sound, Blackfield created catchy music that will get stuck in your head once you give it a listen. There are slow, hypnotic love songs and fantastic grooves from the moment that the record starts until its very last note. If you’ve heard Blackfield’s first album, you already know that you’re going to pick up a copy of
Blackfield II. If you haven’t heard them yet, I demand that you buy a copy of the album as soon as possible.
