DARKER SIDE OF NONSENCE
Dry Kill Logic’s The Darker Side Of Nonsense is musical brutality at its finest form. From the second the first cords of Nitemare come blistering through your speakers, you are taken for a whirlwind ride of angst. I was in love with this album after only hearing three songs and it keeps getting better. With roots heavily planted in the likes of Pantera, Sepultura and Tool, this Westchester, NY based group thrash through each song with equal intensity. “Do you want to step to this? Wanna mess with this? Wanna piss on this? You’re on my shit list!” From the song Nothing is just an example of the anger seeping from this disc.
Just being able to hear some of the styles of the hardest bands that influenced Dry Kill Logic fused together is a rare treat. Cliff Rigano effortlessly goes from a snarling scream to a almost melodic tone throughout TDSON. During A Better Man Than Me, his screeching of “Fuck You don’t tell me” over and over just serve to get you stoked to beat the shit out of someone or something. Scott Thompson truly plays his ass off with crisp guitar licks that grind your senses with the subtleness of a sledgehammer across the head. He shows his musical range in songs like 13 and Weight where he just switches speeds and down shifts throughout.
The only downer of the album comes in the form of the ballad Goodnight. It’s not that it is really a horrific song; I just associate it with speeding on the highway on the way to work and slamming on your brakes suddenly. It closes The Darker Side of Nonsense but it just feels like it was thrown in there for the shits and giggles. In fact, it fucked with the entire continuity of the album so much that I was forced to rate it a 9. Dry Kill Logic has made an outstanding CD that just oozes anger and hostility. It is a fast paced mosh fest that will not be leaving my cd changer anytime soon. For the first time in quite some time, I am confidently at a loss for words trying to describe this album. The Darker Side Of Nonsense is a sure fire, must buy
