Satan once proclaimed, “And let there be blastbeats”. My God, the blastbeats. There are so many of them. Nox is an absolutely punishing death metal band, and although they are not doing anything revolutionary or progressive, if you’re yearning for a straight-up thrashing, then this is for you. “Chorozonic Chaos Gods” starts out right away as if the song has already been going on for a couple of minutes. There’s no frills, no suspense-building intro. A groove comes in the bridge that offers a chance for some simple headbanging before returning to the blastbeats.
“Blind Mad Gods” has two solos that are fairly workman-like. The only lyrics I could make out are in “Insane Hatred for the Supposed Creator” when the obligatory “Hail Satan” chants come in. The album’s second catchy part shows up in “The Jesus Sect”, which closes with fifteen seconds of bees buzzing. This is way more entertaining than it sounds when you’re listening to a repetitive album. A slow, doomy beginning highlights “Intoxicated With Death” before
Nox travels back to their homeland of BBC (that’s blastbeat country). “Zazaz” is the last song, and it has a funny name. In all seriousness, this album should tide over death metal fans who measure greatness by the level of brutality. If you’re more of a progressive fan that prefers the likes of Opeth and Into Eternity, then you’re going to be left wanting.
