United Abominations
First things first, fuck Metallica. There, I got that out of my system. You’ll be saying the same thing once you hear the glorious-ness (err?) of MEGADETH’s latest release. In fact, I want you to listen to this album while thinking about how awesome Metallica could have been if they had let Dave Mustaine stay in the band.
United Abominations is – BY FAR – one of the most talented metal releases that I’ve heard in quite some time. By now we’ve all heard “Sleepwalker” and enjoyed it, well, the album is just as good as the single this time. “Washington Is Next!” is probably my favorite track on the album, while Mustaine’s collaboration with Cristina Scabbia to remake the classic “A Tour Le Monde” is a close second.
I’ll be honest and say that the album does have a couple of weak spots (“Play for Blood” and “Blessed Are the Dead”) but the rest of the album goes off without a hitch. The last track, “Burnt Ice”, is blazing and a perfect way to end the record. I can’t stress enough how much of an improvement this is from 2004’s
The System Has Failed.
Megadeth did a great job of bringing themselves back into the spotlight with
United Abominations. Whether or not you agree with Mustaine’s political views, this album is a must listen for all metal fans.
