Systematic Chaos
Dream Theater is back and James LaBrie is still terrible – but, holy shit, this band is incredible. I’ve always been a casual listener of Dream Theater but the latest album is spot-on from start to finish. Granted, LaBrie’s vocals do hold back some of the songs from being REALLY good but, for the most part, that doesn’t even slow this album down.
“In the Prescence of Enemies, Pt. 1” kicks off the album and is the best song you’ll hear. That doesn’t mean that the album isn’t interesting anymore, this song is just that good. Plus, the album is really epic with the shortest track still clocking in at over five minutes (the finale is just over 16 minutes). The only track that I would definitely say is a miss would be “Dark Eternal Night” and I think that has a lot to do with LaBrie’s vocals.
All in all, this is an incredible album. It shows just what prog metal should be when it hits and gives you something to laugh about when it misses. There was no point while I listened to
Systematic Chaos that I just couldn’t take it anymore. It’s a great piece of work!
