Jack Knife Rendezvous
These guys must really like Motorhead. The band plays that same fast metal-meets-punk rhythm that Motorhead mastered long ago and the vocals are awfully similar to Lemmy Kilmister. More modern counterparts I would say are Brand New Sin and Fireball Ministry; it’s in that same biker rock vein. The title track is like the soundtrack to a high-speed police chase, and it’s a bit faster than the rest of the songs. “Under the Hammer” is just over five minutes and finds the band sounding like a different classic band: Iron Maiden. The jumpy, opening groove sounds like something Steve Harris (Maiden’s bassist) would concoct and then of course, the dual guitar harmonies come in to fully round out the legend worship. In all honesty, the song rocks and although the influences are obvious, it makes for a fun listen.
The sad part in all of this is that from track 5 onward, the songs really start to bleed together. I can’t really differentiate between them, and the singer seems like he’s straining at times to sound raspy and gruff. The tempo isn’t altered at all, the solos are standard, and the biker convoy is simply running out of fuel. If you want the best of what these guys have to offer, download “
Jack Knife Rendezvous” and “Under the Hammer”.
