Ithyphallic
Coming from the ancient catacombs of Egy….. Greensboro, South Carolina, NILE has returned to the forefront of America’s Death Metal scene with their newest recording, Ithyphallic. The band builds upon, rather than changes, their nihlistic, Middle Eastern influenced metal to make this the brightest album of their career.
Sitting at 12-tracks strong, Ithyphallic packs a major punch and changes pace to offer fans many different styles of music. There are tracks that reach over 10-minutes in length and songs that barely hit the 2-minute mark. There are songs that feature Karl Sanders’ death grunts prominitely and others that are completely instrumental. As I said, however, this is not a different sound for Nile but they have built upon their style a lot and I feel that this will make even more metalheads stop and appreciate the band.
My favorite tracks on the album are “As He Creates, So He Destroys,” “Papyrus Containing the Spell to Preserve Its Possessor Against Attacks,” “Laying Fire Upon Apep,” and “Even the Gods Must Die”. There is not a bad track on this album, however, and I would recommend giving it a once-over and pick out your own favorite tracks for this one.
The punishing drums and blasting guitars are non-stop with Ithyphallic. Make sure that you pick up NILE’s new album as soon as you can find it.
