The Lost Tracks Of Danzig
I’ve been a fan of Danzig’s work for years now. Ever since I was in High School and listening to old Misfits albums with my friends I’ve loved Danzig’s voice and his writing. Little by little I wanted to check out what the rest of his work sounded like. While I never got around to listening to Samhain, I did get a few of his solo albums. Honestly, some of them were hits, others were misses. My absolute favorite is, and always will be, Danzig II: Lucifuge.
With that said, The Lost Tracks of Danzig is no Lucifuge. There are some tracks on here that were taken from the Lucifuge sessions, but to be honest, I can see why they were left off. That album showed off Danzig’s vocal range the best, while the first disc of this 2 CD set is rather monotonous, especially the vocals. The vocals are monotone and boring, occasionally bordering on speaking/yelling and doesn’t actually show off any actual singing, save for a few moments here and there. The acoustic version of “Come To Silver” is really the only memorable track from the first disc.
The second disc quickly reprieved an ailing album, coming to the rescue with songs like “Lick The Blood Off My Hands” and “Soul Eater.” The second disc also shows off Glenn’s vocal stylings MUCH better than the first. The Lost Tracks of Danzig certainly isn’t a bad release, it’s just that sometimes tracks are “lost” for a reason. The guitar work on the second disc is also better with more crunch, in my opinion, than the songs on the first disc. Of course, don’t just go with my opinion of The Lost Tracks of Danzig, because what do I know? I still say Glenn’s best work was his earliest, when he was singing about last caresses and teenagers from Mars. One thing is for sure, regardless what band Glenn is with, or what name he is releasing his material under, he will always cough cool and be 138
