Resident Evil: Extinction
The
Resident Evil films have been some of the most successful video game-to-film translations ever, so it would stand to reason that the soundtracks would be equally as impressive. I was a big fan of the first
Resident Evil Soundtrack, as well as the music from
Resident Evil: Apocalypse. Both discs were filled with veteran hard rock and metal artists, with occasional peppering from newer acts.
Resident Evil: Extinction tends to lean toward the screamo side of rock, which I'm not as partial to, but is certainly relevant in today's musical climate. It's not blowing my hair back as much as the last two though.
Let's start out with the standout tracks, shall we? SHADOWS FALL come at you like a brick to the face with "Stupid Crazy" and I think my favorite track on the disc is EMIGRATE's "My World". I wasn't a big fan of FLYLEAF, but after hearing the T-Virus Remix of "I'm So Sick", I think I'll hit iTunes and get some Flyleaf. THROWDOWN's "I, Suicide" has a very SLAYER-ish feel to it, and "Paralyzed" by CHIMARIA rattled something loose in my lower intestine.
Songs I could do without, on the other hand include: "Duality" by Bayside, "One Love" by AIDEN vs. The Legion Of Doom, and "Catch Me" by City Sleeps sounds like it could be on a
Spider-Man soundtrack. Not BAD songs, because that would be a different argument altogether. They're all well-written showcases for the bands, but seem misplaced on a soundtrack to a zombie slash-fest like
Resident Evil: Extinction.
The tracks that DO work work VERY well; I just wish there were more of them.
