Saw 4
My feelings on the
SAW films are a bit mixed. I used to be a gorehound when I was younger, but I started looking for more substance in my old age (Jesus, I'm barely into my thirties... relax, ass)... but I have yet to be disappointed with a
SAW soundtrack yet. The
Saw 4 Soundtrack follows its predecessors in that it's a bang-up collection of songs from veteran hard rock and metal acts, as well as a showcase for up-and-comers.
Since I'm a fan of melody, my picks for standout songs will have strong melodic characteristics. "Collapse" by SAOSIN should have been the first track on the disc; it's much stronger than "Payroll" by NITZER EBB. While I miss Dave Williams' growl, DROWNING POOL's contribution "Shame" is a brutal attack on the senses. Anything by SIXX AM is a great track, and "Tomorrow" is as good of a track as any to showcase that band's killer talent. The AVENGED SEVENFOLD track "Eternal Rest" starts out like a chainsaw or woodchipper, but gets a bit more singable toward the end. MINISTRY is calling it quits this year, and "Life is Good" is a great track to start off their swan song.
There are also some bands that you may not have heard of that you should pay attention to: SOULIDIUM is a killer band out of Missouri who we used for
this FOUNDRY CAMS video, and they continue to impress with "Trapped". The song "Beatcrusher" by DOPE STARS INC is a great tune for an unwilling victim to have his/her head torn open by a bear trap, and Omaha's OXYGEN contributed a song so uncharacteristic of their usual forte because they were such fans of the
Saw films. "Do You Want to Play A Game" is so unlike anything on
the band's MySpace page, that you have to wonder if they'll ever go back to the mellow.
This soundtrack actually has me hyped to see
Saw IV. Is that supposed to happen, or am I turning into a lemming? Either way, it's a great disc.
