DEMO
This is just a four song demo with an accompanying DVD that features a music video of one of the songs on the CD. Ashes of Your Enemy play a simple brand of metal where you can tell there’s influences by many bands, but you can’t pinpoint which ones. They show promise with the first track, “Living Sacrifice” and it reminds me of Machine Head’s less-technical era, but it has enough raw energy to propel it. The same can’t be said for the other three songs. They begin to sound like a nu-metal band that just learned a few new riffs and started playing faster. “Veil of Deception” tries to cram the same tired gimmicks such as a distortion solo in the beginning and vocal effects that make the singer sound distant. The song sounds very unsure of itself, which didn’t seem to be a problem on the first track. The singer has a standard metal yell, and sounds like Drowning Pool’s last singer, Jason “Gong” Jones. For some of you that may be a good thing, but for this wiseass right here, it’s definitely bad.
