Hot Rod soundtrack
Would you honestly look at a
soundtrack to a shitty summer comedy such as this and expect great music? I would hope not. In case you dare to enter this failed world of forced irony and cheesy 80s music, let me give you the complete lowdown on what to expect.
There are FOUR, count ‘em, four songs by 80s arena rockers
Europe. And no, “Final Countdown” isn’t one of the songs. I don’t know about you, but I haven’t been clamoring to delve deeper into the
Europe catalogue. We have some other 80s tunes in the vein of pop and new wave from
Stacey Q,
Moving Pictures, and the
Cutting Crew’s single hit “I Just Died In Your Arms”. There’s bits of dialogue from the movie interspersed throughout. Nothing funny of course. Then there’s “Cool Beans”. This is a song built around what critics have said is a hilarious part in the movie where the characters keep saying cool beans in clever, wacky ways. After this goes on for a little while, the rapper
B Legit comes in and spits a rhyme. I’m pretty sure this is done straight-faced, which is supposed to make it funnier? I guess...Anyway, this
soundtrack is overlong at 58 minutes. Then again, I never expect anything amazing from soundtracks and
Hot Rod is certainly not helping any opposing argument.
