Shout
De Novo Dahl’s new EP, Shout, features six tracks, of which only a couple may warrant repeated play. The final three tracks are remixes of the first three tracks. I like the original versions best, as the remixes tend to be a little messier. This Nashville quintet, led by Joel J. Dahl, does seem to have fun at doing what they do. Very similar in styles to Chumbawumba and, O.K. Go, De Novo Dahl has the full potential to create a hit single or two. “Shout (Popple mix)”, the first track, is enjoyable enough, is a high energy quasi dance song suitable for playing during the end-of-day workout at the gym. The other mentionable song on Shout is “Dance like David”. is enjoyable as well, in mostly the same qualities. I thought, the remixed version of “Shout”, called “Crap Your Pants, Say Shout” (no, I am not kidding), was the most annoying track of the remixes, until I heard “Dance Like David Bason”, the final track. Both were equally worse, remixed, but the later was just a chaotic mess.
De Novo Dahl plan to release their next full length CD in early 2008.
