Messengers

Metalcore is an animal that refuses to die, and its sound has been all the rage to many youngsters looking to swing limbs in the pit. August Burn Red’s Messengers is the perfect soundtrack for that kind of release of teenage angst, but it doesn’t have anything to offer in the way of groundbreaking material or even catchy songs. “The Truth of A Liar” features Gothenburg-style riffs that American bands have been culling from At the Gates and In Flames for years now. The vocals are similar to As I Lay Dying and the song, like most of the others on this release, have typical breakdowns. There are some melodic touches that call to mind Misery Signals in “Composure” and “Back Burner”.

Some notable parts are the ominous backing vocals in “Vital Signs” and the triumphant gang vocals in “Redemption”. When it comes down to it, you’ve heard this all before and August Burns Red delivers nothing new to this stale genre.
