Cover Up
Ministry is here with the Co-Conspirators to bring you the latest (and last) of Al Jourgensens material that can be called Ministry.
Cover Up is 11 tracks (plus some hidden gems, there are 69 “tracks” on this CD in total) of cover material that you may or may not have heard before from Ministry. The first track, a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Under My Thumb” features Burton C. Bell (Fear Factory, Ascension of the Watchers) on vocals and is an excellent start to this album. Next up is “Bang a Gong” which actually did nothing for me, but then it was followed by a cover of Golden Earring’s “Radar Love.” This song really had some punch and was a fun track to groove to on the ride home after a long day at work. Ram Jam’s “Black Betty” is on here in all it’s newly-found industrial goodness, the original track always had that choppy feel to it, so it was a natural fit for the double bass effect that you hear on most Ministry songs. “Mississippi Queen” by Mountain is excellent, you can almost see Leslie West banging his head to this one. I wasn’t very fond of the way “Just Got Paid” by ZZ Top came out, but that’s just me, I can’t really imagine any of their songs adapting well to the Ministry type sound. “Roadhouse Blues” appears on this as well, which is kind of strange since it was also just released on Ministry’s previous album The Last Sucker, this was one of my favorites from that album though so I’ll let it slide. There are 2 other songs that most hardcore Ministry fans probably already have, and those are “Lay Lady Lay” and “Supernaut.” When I first bought the original N.I.B. – Tribute to Black Sabbath the 1,000 Homo DJs had this song featured on it, but it was a different version, just slightly and I have to admit that I liked that version better than this one.
All in all Cover Up is a great album, I’ll let you pick it up and find the hidden tracks for yourself.
