Jagermeister always has a knack for putting together great Jagermusic Tours (click for tickets) and the Fall 2008 Tour is no exception. I was able to head out to the Nokia Theatre in New York City last night to check out the show. Greeted by our good friend Adam, I was told that OCTANE would be opening up the show. So I ran down the escalator (actually, rode down, I was tired) and got in the room just in time for their opening song. I hadn’t listened to them before, but from what I heard and saw, they’ve got a solid thing going there. Great stage presence for an opening act, and they really had the crowd up front going.

Next up was REV THEORY, whose hit single Rev Theory'Hell Yeah' (click to download) can be heard on most Rock radio stations fairly regularly. Stage presence is the name of the game here, in fact, the women in the crowd liked the singer’s muscles so much I think they would have been cheering even if the band came out and stood perfectly still while the house sound system just played their CD. Anyway, these guys put on an energetic show and really laid down some solid Metal for the crowd. They finished up the set with Rev Theory'Hell Yeah'

Now on to TRAPT. I’m going to have to say I was disappointed by this band. I have only heard a few of their singles on my XM Radio, and never really knew what to think. They have a knack for writing catchy hooks, but the vocals don’t win me over. I’m not actually sure what it is about them, it’s either they’re too smooth, or not smooth enough. I’m a tough customer, I know, so you don’t have to take my critique as gospel. Now, the lighting was cool, they had more space on the stage than the previous 2 bands, but the dancing killed me. The singer dances around to Rock and Roll as if he’s hearing Salsa music. What’s with that? Was he wearing headphones and listening to something other than what the crowd was hearing? I mean, I’ve got to be honest, he looks ridiculous. In fact, if you’ve seen any of John Leguizamo’s comedy specials, where he dances around in between riffs, that’s pretty much what it looked like. It just didn’t fit, his dancing around totally ruined their set for me, it just looked silly, and his moves didn’t match the music most of the time, and don’t get me started on how he was still dancing at times even when there was no music. Sorry to say but Jager dropped the ball on these guys.

HINDER was obviously the big sell (duh, being the headliner and all), and they did a great job living up to the responsibility. I was never a big fan, not because I didn’t like them, I just never checked them out long enough to really get into it. I’ll tell you this though, if you’re only a casual listener like I was, their live show will blow you away. Talk about energy! From the second they came out these guys looked like they just had an IV drip of Red Bull going the whole night before coming onto the stage. They obviously did what everyone expected them to do and played all the big hit singles, as well as the other big tracks that you just knew were gonna be played. They even did a cover of “Born To Be Wild” which was surprisingly good (I’m a tough sell on cover songs. Hey, I’m a music journalist, I HAVE to be picky). Hinder really took charge of that stage and got people going, it was the first time in a long time that I saw people actually dancing on the floor (rather than standing straight faced or moshing each other into oblivion). Jager, once again, has put together a solid tour, with bands that people actually want to see.

Hinder is heading out early next year with Motley Crue, so be sure to check them out on that trek if you weren’t able to make it out to the Jagermeister Music Tour (click for tix!). And from now on, keep an eye on Jagermusic.com to find out what bands are going out on these tours, with lineups like this one, and the ones they’ve done in the past, you definitely don’t want to miss these little excursions.
