Goodbye Blue Monday
Goodbye Blue Monday is a very mellow folksy album, like one you would buy at Starbucks. With songwriting skills akin to Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and Warren Zevon, and an acoustic guitar, Jeremy Fisher produces a surprisingly enjoyable and relaxing listening experience from beginning to end. "Scar That Never Heals", the first selection, delivers a slightly upbeat melody on top of catchy lyrics about gun running. Another up-tempo song, "American Girls", is very reminiscent of Tom Petty in song structure and in vocals, although, for the record, it is not a cover of Tom Petty's "American Girl".
One of my favorite cuts is one titled, "Cigarette". The lyrics were really clever, and fit the melody quite well. After a few listens, its difficult to not sing along to the chorus, "I'll be your cigarette. Light me up and get on with it. I'll be hard to forget, good or bad, I'm just a habit.."
I was really impressed by this CD. It might not be placed into my list of CDs I consider for heavy rotation, but I definitely will be listening to it again.
