Anthem for the Underdog
Anthem for the Underdog by 12 Stones is for people who don’t like their rock too heavy or out of control. Do not mistake this as a put-down or me trashing the album, because it’s not. It’s a fact that this album will appeal to those who like the mellower and deeper side of rock. Granted, I’m not the audience for these guys, but at the same time I can’t trash them or say that they’re awful, because they’re not. For the type of music they put out, they’re very good and successful at what they want to put out there.
In some ways they remind me of Nickelback, although I think I enjoyed this album more than any of their stuff. For the most part Anthem for the Underdog isn’t too wild or crazy. There’s some nice vocals by the lead singer and the overall band itself is pretty good. I must also add that the songs are well written and well structured. Again, they’re not for me, but I can’t say they’re not good at what they do.
I did happen to find some favorite tracks, and those would be “Adrenaline,” “This Dark Day” and “Games You Play.” To be honest, I think I would’ve enjoyed the album a whole lot more of there were more songs like “Adrenaline.” Not saying that the whole album would have to be fast, but I would’ve enjoyed a few more songs with that kind of pacing.
So, does Anthem for the Underdog by 12 Stones deliver? Well, if you’re looking for music that’s raw and heavy, you’re going to be disappointed. On the other hand, if you like your rock mellow and at times deep, then you and Anthem for the Underdog might get along just fine.
