Punisher: War Zone
The soundtrack to the film Punisher: War Zone is comprised of hard rock and heavy metal songs, some new and some from previous recordings. The film is ultra violent so why not relate the soundtrack to something hard and heavy. It was a good choice. It starts off strong with a new Rob Zombie track entitled “War Zone”. Its typical Zombie stuff and if you’re a fan of his then you’ll be a fan of the song. Slayer’s “Final Six” comes in next and blows the roof off. Slayer is a perfect band to be on an album like this. They follow that up with some Slipknot from their newest album, the song “Psychosocial.” It keeps the heaviness flowing.
Then we lighten up a bit and this is where the album starts going downhill. Now I’m not saying Rise Against is a bad band or the song “Historia Calamitatum” is shit but it just doesn’t fit the formula. Its followed by Seether’s “Fallen” which heavies thing up a bit more but not in a heavy metal way. Then the odd placement of Kerli’s “Bulletproof.” From then on we get stereotypical hard rock and then some electronica. I don’t know where this album went wrong but it definitely did.
Thank God it picks back up with the heaviness when Hatebreed comes in with a cover of Sepultura’s “Refuse/Resist.” And damn did they do a job. Jamey Jasta has the perfect voice to cover Sepultura. Follow it up with some Static-X and it seems like we’re back on the right path for a heavy album to a movie that deserves something hard and badass. I imagine Frank Castle, The Punisher, would jam to some Hatebreed when he’s spraying bullets into some baddies. The album concludes with a rap metal type song from Ramallah that is pretty cool. All in all, the album is a mixture of good and bad but the good is pretty damn good.
