Remixes for the Damned
Remixes for the Damned is a remixed reinvention of Filter’s Anthems for the Damned. The music on this album has a very late nineties industrial/goth feel to it, while lyrically, most of the songs are focused on the subject of war. This if really different and unlike what I am used to hearing from the band Filter, but it is also very good. Richard Patrick had enlisted John 5 to accompany and co-write a couple of songs for Anthems of the Dammed. Both of these songs found its way onto this collection, “What‘s Next” and “The Take”, with two new remixes apiece. That being said, and with “Soldiers of Fortune“, and “Kill the Day”, both existing in this collection three times apiece, that leaves the Remixes for the Damned containing nine different songs taking up fifteen tracks.
Tracks that stand out the most include, “Kill the Day (Gonzo in the Club)”. Carrying a constant hammering beat, laced throughout the track, it would not be unthinkable to find this playing at a dance club. “In Dreams (Chase the White Rabbit Into Pakistan)” being the another stand out. This is an incredible song, and the remix just doesn’t do the song as much justice as it deserves, leaving the cut sounding a little flat.
I would advise picking up Anthems for the Damned first, by all means. And if you like that and want to explore how those songs could be presented in a different fashion, by all means pick up Remixes for the Damned.
