The End Of Life
Let's face it, Polish alternative metal rockers UnSun are not a household name. Hell, I'll be honest and say I had never heard of them before I got this CD to review. I'm kicking myself now, because I have a feeling The End Of Life is going to be spinning in my CD player, and loaded on my MP3 player for many months to come.
The End Of Life opens up with the song “Whispers”, and as soon as lead singer Aya Stefanowicz kicks in with her shrill, melodic vocals it's a bit of a shock to the system. Now, I LOVE female fronted metal, but Aya's voice is a completely different animal from any other I've heard in metal, and my opinion is that it contrasts and complements the driving heavy metal of Mauser Stefanowicz and company beautifully.
As far as as lyrics go, they're not exactly the most complex or novel, but English as a second language may be to blame for that.
Standouts include “Blinded By Hatred”, the haunting and beautiful ballad “Memories”, and the surprising Industrial feeling “Indifference” which quickly became my favorite on The End Of Life.
Unsun shares a label with Italian rockers Lacuna Coil, and I can only hope with their solid offering in The End Of Life they achieve the same kind of success.
