LIFE
A shinier, friendlier DOPE?... Well, sort of. I was honestly expecting another dose of the grizzly, chisled, tormented vocal melodies of Felons and Revolutionaries...you know, "Everything Sucks" is a perfect example of what I'm talking about...Imagine my surprise when I crank up the first single, "Now or Never", expecting to ram my head through a plate glass window for the hell of it...but I pulled back when I realized that the melody was catchy, the song was hummable, and this might wind up on the radio in more than a few cities.
Whusgoinon, man????
The guys in DOPE realized that quick, hooky, hummable tunes are going to get them radio play a lot quicker than harmonized, deep-vocal, rage rock. Don't get me wrong, "Everthing Sucks" and "Sick" got their share of attention, but I think Dope is making a bold move by lightening up their sound. It's comparable to 80's heavy metal in that you can thrash to it, but you can also sing along to it.
Life was produced by frontman and main songwriter, Edsel Dope, and Josh Abraham (STAIND, LIMP BIZKIT, ORGY). The result is a welcome deviation from today's rapcore, which could very well propel Dope to the next level of noteriety.
