SLAYER - LIVE AT ROSELAND BALLROOM
I wanted to start this review out letting you all know that I never really planned on reviewing this show. I wanted to go to cleanse my soul. Why you ask? On Sept 10th I did about five hours of hard work after a full day of the regular 9-5, and churned out a review of the God Hates Us All record. Turns out that this review was posted on September 11th. I was happy to see the review posted the day of the release and then all hell broke loose. I sorta felt guilty thinking people may have though I had no feeling or pure bad taste because we posted prior to the events of those fucks! God Hates Us All was my first question when I saw that atrocity. The review was done and sent to the webmaster. I just wanted some of you to know that and clear my head.
A Sold Out Roseland Ballroom is ready for some pain.
The only problem with a Friday show is? The fact that you have to come home from work and get a few minutes to rest and then get ready to leave. Train ride and eats at WWF NY were in order. One beer and one we go. A nice 100 block walk totally last night. We finally make it into the club to find out that Slayer is on and mighty early. I'm hearing the set in and out making way around the club.
Get upstairs and start to hear the sound breaking up as the band tries to play on. We make are way around the mezzanine to behind the stage for a great birds eye view of the pit and the front of what man have viewed a "Warzone'! People flying everywhere! I did also note that the bouncers catching the kids went well and above the standard. It was like security and the crowd was a family.
It was also cool from this vantagepoint because we got to watch Paul Bostaph go off on his drum kit.
All music comes to a stop. Slayer's set it shut down. The sound became so bad; they had to stop the show. The chant of soundman sucks! Went on forever. Tom Araya even came out to tell the crowd that they get the point with the chant. It was become annoying in a way, but still funny. At this point you know they had to strip the set down a few songs. USA chant did also break out at one point.
Turns out that somebody spilled beer on the soundboard. Something flew through the air and hit a beer I'd think. They really needed a hairdryer.
I also must say again, that I didn't bring a pad and paper to this show. This was supposed to be a night off from all the hard work I've been doing. So from memory is after banging my head with fury they played the likes of: "Die By The Sword", "Postmortem", "Raining Blood", "Hell Awaits", "Angel Of Death", "War Ensemble", "Dead Skin Mask", "Bloodline", "Here Comes The Pain", "Seasons In The Abyss"(I swear I heard that one.), "South Of Heaven", "Disciple" and a handful of others.
It is funny that the last show review I did was when Slayer was at Ozzfest. I should start doing this a bit more and bringing a pen.
