COCKY

Next up on the Top 100 albums of all time to use the word 'Motherfucker' forty times a minute is the latest offering from Detroit's own KID ROCK, Cocky. 'Motherfucker' is going to very soon become one of those words like 'Smurf'...it's going to mean all things to all people if these rappers keep throwing it around as much as they do; it's going to lose it's toughness... No?...Don't agree with me?

Oh, OK... Fine...I got nothing...

Cocky answers all of those cynics who didn't think Kid Rock could produce another decent record with a big middle finger. It's a top-notch collection of fourteen tracks, featuring Kid Rock (a.k.a. Bob Ritchie) doing what he does best: Mixing Hard rock riffs with Hip-hop beats with a southern rock flavor. He's really carving a nice little niche for himself with this whole pimp-cowboy thing he's got going on.

The first single, "Forever", is basically Kid Rock bragging about how big his dick is, and how he'd like to tell every cynic who didn't think he'd hit a sophomore slump can suck his fat one. That being said, even though the song is boastful and arrogant, it's catchy as hell, and it's hitting radio like crazy.

Cocky shows a lot more of the soft side of Kid Rock with songs like "What I learned on the Road", "Picture"(feat. Sheryl Crow), and second single, "Lonely Road of Faith". A lot of his songs on this record are about his experiences on the road for the past few years since his Atlantic Records debut in 1998. He sings about lost relationships, lost love, drug abuse, homesickness, and there are a few references to his late comrade, Joe C, who passed away earlier in 2001.

The title track, "Cocky" is another middle finger-song, in that Kid Rock explains all of the reasons he should write these big-dick-mentality songs, and why he's so rich, and why he gets to nail Pam Anderson these days. Rappers (even those who mix it up with rock and southern twang) LOVE to talk themselves up, and Mr. Ritchie is no exception.

The disc shows a maturing Kid Rock, one who's been beaten up a few dozen times, picked himself up, dusted himself off, and kept going...to the point where he's now...well, Cocky.
