Female comedians...whenever the subject comes up (especially among a bunch of guys), the response is usually a collective "Oh no, not another one..."
I'll admit right away that I never liked Margaret Cho, I think Rita Rudner is boring, and the only time I ever laughed at Paula Poundstone was at her sentencing for touching a kid (OK, that was an easy one). Men don't generally laugh at PMS jokes, hormone humor, fashion jokes, and any other typical topic that female comics draw from.
Bayne Gibby, however, has a guitar, and she chooses to express her humor to music. With her recent self-titled release, which was recorded live at Freaks Local 413, in New York City, sounds like she's playing to a packed house...albeit a coffe house...but she drew a crowd. With songs like "Hot Guy With Tourettes", "Erectionland", and "Tea With My Stalker". she spews endlessly about dating, not getting laid, and guys she's met who like to curse. Is it funny? I have to admit, I laughed. Is she the female Stephen Lynch? Not by a long shot. Adam Sandler? Maybe...EARLY Adam Sandler. Her material needs a bit more honing (she needs to get more guys laughing in the crowd), and she needs to improve her guitar playing a bit (right now, she's strumming basic chords and singing along), because the songs might sound a little fuller with improved technique.
Bayne grew up in New Jersey, but plays constantly in clubs all over New York City, so the likelihood that you could catch her one night at Caroline's is substantial.
